I'm here just taking it slow:)

When I imagined this surgery and afterwards I was kind of thinking it would be pretty easy, which I am sure compared to other surgeries it is a breeze.. Me being a surgery virgin, I was not quite prepared.  I will have to tell you my surgery story later:)  It really all went very well and I have no big complaints but where the port is it is so so so so tender like I have done 1000 situps.  I hope everyone else experienced this, my surgeon told me it was because they had to dig in and attach it to my muscle(which makes sense)  Also, I have a heavy feeling in my chest and when I breathe, Im hoping its just gas and it will go away soon... no bad shoulder pain though!?  I would love to hear from you ladies to see if all this is normal?:) Thanks for all your wonderful comments and support it truly helps!  I am just looking forward to the next few days and feeling better:)

  1. Expect a lot of gas pain. Your stomach will be sore for a few days too. I never experienced the shoulder pain, but a lot of the ladies do. Get through the next week and you will feel much better.

  2. I had no gas pain to speak of, just the "sit-ups" pain and general malaise. My surgery was on Wednesday afternoon; I slept all day Thursday; went out a bit with my husband on Friday (to the car wash and watched him eat lunch); and on Saturday rode home from Denver (400 miles).

I had incredible "sit-ups" pain with my gall bladder surgery. That lasted over a week where I had tremendous pain moving in bed. Then miraculously on day 9, it resolved.

For me, the lap band surgery was pretty easy as long as I took a little care of myself.

  3. Definitely, the gas pain was the WORST. A heavy feeling in my chest, and a pain in my left shoulder - I couldn't lie on that side for a few days. I was feeling much better after 3 or 4 days, but it didn't go away fully until about 9 or 10 days post op, but by then it was fine. I also had some serious port tenderness, so that's normal too. Hope that helps a little bit!

  4. The gas goes away when walking - I spent days walking in circles around my living room as it was raining! It was the worst by far. The first week is the worst and expect to be tired for several weeks after!xxx

  6. It all sounds pretty normal to me. Like Rachel said, walking is the key for the gas pain. For me, just going up & down the hallway in the house did the trick.

    You're doing great!

  7. The gas was the worst pain for me. I was jealous when my husband belched!! My other pain was mostly at my port site. I didn't think the gas would ever go away, but by day 10 I was feeling great! Hang in there!
